L/Cpl. Charles Robert Hay

Fusilier Charles Robert Hay, formerly of the Lancashire Fusiliers and No.12 Commando, served in No.6 Commando from, at least, 26th July 1943.

Fusilier Charles Hay was appointed as Lance-Corporal on 12th June 1944.

L/Cpl. Charles Hay died in hospital on 7th July 1944, aged 31 years from wounds received earlier in the campaign.

He was the son of Robert and Catherine Hay, of Dalton-in-Furness, Lancashire; and the husband of Catherine E. Hay, of Dalton-in-Furness. Charles was laid to rest in La Delivrande War Cemetery (Douvres, Calvados, France). Grave V.K.1.

The inscription on his headstone reads:

‘Grant him, O’Lord. Eternal rest. And let perpetual light, shine upon him. R.I.P.’
